Type 1 Diabetes
Newly diagnosed
Did you (or a loved one you care for) just receive a new diagnosis and you left the hospital feeling like someone handed you the keys to a car but you have no idea how to drive?
I get you, I have been there. Its scary and overwhelming. But I can tell you one thing - as human beings we are blessed to be incredibly resilient and adaptable. You will learn to "drive" and it will become second nature (as odd as that may sound to you now).
We are lucky to live at a time when science and technology have provided us with many tools for managing T1D. However,
the most important tool that you have is nutrition.
We cannot control everything, but we can have control over what we eat and when - at least most of the time! How you eat will determine how easy or difficult it will be to "drive" with T1D.
I can provide you with the nutrition "toolbox", so that the ride is as smooth as possible. Learning to use this "toolbox" will enable you to have more time living and less time worrying about blood sugar. It will allow you to sleep and exercise without worrying about highs and lows (Yes, you can even go swimming!). More importantly, it will set the course for a healthy life without the fear of complications hanging over your shoulder.

Old member of "the club"
Have you been part of the T1D "club" for years, but the ride is still bumpy? You are not a fan of rollercoasters, but somehow you find yourself on one more often that you'd like?
The good news is that this does not have to be your predicament! There are things that we can do to fix that.
Unfortunately, despite the best intentions of the medical teams, many T1Ds leave the hospitals without appreciating the nuances of how to navigate this complex condition. We are told (or even taught) to eat healthy and exercise. But as with many things in life, the devil here is in the detail.
It's one thing being told to eat healthy and exercise, its quite another putting it into practice.
- The types of foods you chose,
- The way you cook them (or not!),
- When you eat them,
- How you eat them,
- all play a role in how difficult or easy it is to control you blood sugar.
We can go into all that and more if you chose to work with me.
